Mercury UV lamps are basically the heavy lifters of the industrial curing and sterilization world. They just work. But usually, the price you pay is inflated because of a long chain of middlemen. We decided to do things differently. We handle everything ourselves—from sourcing the raw quartz to the final gas fill. Why? Because it keeps the costs down and the quality under our thumb.
The Nitty-Gritty of the Build
At its heart, these lamps are all about keeping a stable plasma arc. We use a high-purity fused quartz envelope and a very specific amount of mercury vapor. Once you hit it with the starting voltage, the mercury ionizes and you get that shortwave UV radiation. Here is where things usually go wrong with the cheap stuff: heat. If your line is running 24/7, the glass expands and contracts constantly. Cheap tubes can’t handle that stress and they crack. We use industrial-grade quartz specifically to stop that from happening. It’s built to take the heat without warping.
Getting Them Into Your System
Most of our lamps are designed to be simple drop-in replacements. You shouldn’t have to rebuild your entire array just to switch a bulb. We offer a bunch of different lengths and wattages to fit whatever ballast you’re already using. Plus, you can pick the end-cap configuration that matches your wiring. We’re obsessive about the pin spacing, too. There is nothing worse than fighting with a socket during a lamp change-out when you’re already behind schedule.It should just click into place.
The High-Output Trade-off
It’s tempting to just go for the highest wattage possible to speed up your line. More power equals more intensity. But there’s a catch. When you push a lot of power through a short tube, things get hot. Really hot. If your cooling fans or water jackets aren’t up to the task, the mercury starts to migrate. That’s when your UV output drops and the lamp dies early. To help you avoid that, we give you the exact spectral output data. That way, you can match the lamp perfectly to your photoinitiator and keep everything running smooth.
