
Getting the Heat Right on Your MHM Press
If you’ve ever dealt with ink that just won’t cure or adhesives that peel off too easily, you know the frustration. MHM presses are beasts, but they’re picky about their heat. The problem usually starts when people swap out the factory lamps for something “close enough.” That’s where things go sideways. You end up with hot spots, cold spots, or lamps that burn out way faster than they should. To get that factory-perfect finish, you need a replacement that actually behaves like the original—same wattage, same voltage, same light spectrum. No shortcuts. The math behind the heat We build our infrared lamps to fit the exact footprint of your MHM system. It sounds technical, but here’s the real-world impact: if your lamp doesn’t hit the right wattage per centimeter, your prints stay tacky. You’ll find yourself slowing down the line just to get the ink to set, and that kills your productivity. We spend a lot of time obsessing over the relationship between voltage and the filament. By using a higher voltage and a thinner filament, we can crank up the surface temperature. This pushes more of that short-wave radiation directly into the fabric, which is exactly what you want. Quartz and the “small stuff” Cheap glass bows when it gets hot. We use high-purity quartz so the lamp stays straight and true, even when it’s screaming hot. We also use halogen cycles. Basically, it keeps the tungsten from evaporating and prevents the lamp from dimming over time. You get a consistent glow from day one until the end of the lamp’s life. Then there are the connectors—the R7s or Sk15 ones, depending on how old your machine is. We make sure the fit is tight. Why? Because a loose connection creates a tiny electrical arc. It doesn’t sound like much, but it’ll fry your socket in a few days. Not a fun way to spend a Tuesday. A few things to watch out for These lamps put out a massive amount of heat. They ramp up fast, which is great for your workflow, but it puts a lot of stress on your reflectors. Take a look at your reflectors. If they’re pitted or look oxidized, the heat isn’t going into the garment—it’s soaking back into the frame of your machine. And please, check your fans. These high-output lamps make the dryer tunnel a lot hotter. If your airflow isn’t keeping up, you’re going to keep tripping the thermal overrides, and that’s a headache nobody needs.
