
Making Your Mercury UV Tubes Last (Without Breaking the Bank)
Mercury UV curing tubes are the heavy lifters of any coating line. They do the hard work, but if you’re using cheap alternatives, you know the drill: they burn out way too fast, and suddenly your production line is at a standstill. We build ours to actually handle the heat.
Why some tubes just die early
It mostly comes down to the guts of the lamp. We use high-purity quartz glass because it lets the UV light through without cracking under thermal shock. But the real secret is in the electrodes. You’ve probably seen “sputtering”—that’s when metal deposits start gunking up the inside of the tube. Once that happens, your light dims, your cure fails, and you’re stuck swapping lamps. We tweaked the chemistry of the electrodes to stop that from happening so quickly. It means you can actually trust your lamps to keep running.
The trade-off: Power vs. Heat
Most of our tubes are built for high wattage. If you’re working with thick coatings, you need that heavy hit of UVC and UVB radiation to get a deep cure. It’s fast. It’s efficient. But here’s the catch:high power equals high heat. If your cooling fans are dusty or your water-jackets aren’t up to the task, your tubes will die early. Period. Overheating the glass ruins the electrode coatings, and no matter how well the tube is made, it can’t fight bad cooling.
Cutting out the middleman
We do everything in-house—from drawing the quartz to filling the gas and sealing the ends. Why does that matter to you? Because you aren’t paying for a bunch of distributors and markups.
